The historic Nobbys Lighthouse has been an icon of Newcastle since its establishment in 1858. It’s headland, which has history and lore surrounding it stretching back to the Dreamtime offers incredible 360˚ views of Newcastle, Stockton, the Hunter River, and beyond.
The site remains open each Sunday, along with a small kiosk serving coffee and light snacks.
For many years the site’s potential had long stood unrealised, as developers had tried to renovate and activate the site without success. In 2014, local business improvement association Newcastle Now began working on a plan to develop the site with a restaurant, café, function centre and gallery – restoring the grounds and historic cottages to their former glory.
We were invited to assist with the renewed effort to make the site suitable for weddings and special events. Our role involved the creation of a visual identity, website (in development) and printed materials to help the site appeal to the boutique wedding and function market.
The elegant brandmark was designed as a nod to the simplistic black and white design of the 1800s – complemented with a cool colour palette sympathetic to the landscape. Award-winning Novocastrian photographer Hannah Rose Robinson provided the photography after capturing the lighthouse grounds during a busy cruise ship stopover.
